I love the new direction the music has taken but what in the name of Johnny Christ is going on with that chorus? It sounds so out of place. Part of me's dreading the new album now. No matter how good Passion's Killing Floor is.
Also, this whole thing about "Oh God, we're so heavy now, we're so different.", erm... no you're not. Sorry boys, I love you to pieces and your other albums have all been brilliant (with the exceptions of Uneasy Listening and Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights) but the music still sounds the same. | |

My Chemical Romance and their "fans".
Now everyone who knows me knows of my love and admiration for My Chemical Romance. However for those of you who don't, here's the very short version. They saved my life. That's all you need to know. Last year, they released The Black Parade album and became a real household name everywhere. This year, they did arena dates and they did them amazingly well. Not much of an argh really, eh? Well here's the argh...
Certain people have been accusing them of selling out by doing these larger shows and by becoming so popular. It's these kind of people that are the main source of my annoyance. A band can not stay unknown forever. Just because the band have gained popularity, it doesn't mean they've sold out. A band only sells out when they sacrifice their musical beliefs for money, something My Chemical Romance haven't done. I mean, listen to The Black Parade - it's a huge risk for them, you can tell it's the music that they want to make not the music people have expected them to make. They won't have sat down and thought "Right, we're a huge cult band, how can we burst into the mainstream?" before writing it, it just happened.
As for them playing the larger venues, what's wrong with that? Lostprophets played arenas earlier this year, White Stripes are playing arenas this year, fuck Muse have played stadiums this year. Have they been accused of selling out? No. What's the difference? MCR are playing these dates because they have the fanbase to do it. Watching them headline Rock AM Ring festival on TV a few weeks ago, they had the entire crowd singing along with them and these fans were German. And the fans were singing in English. How many bands can say they've managed that in the space of time MCR have?
In conclusion, MCR haven't sold out, they've just reached legend status quicker than most bands do. | |
